You will also need the Fire Report Number and pay the appropriate fee at the City of Grayling's Office located at 1020 City Blvd, Grayling MI 49738 or pay online via the Credit Card Services page.

Grayling Fire is organized like many departments across our United States: with both full-time and paid per-call members. The dedication and commitment these individuals bring to the community is 2nd to no other profession. The Staff of the Grayling Fire Department give of themselves initially during the 200+ hour Firefighter I and II training programs to become certified. These brave few sacrifice sleep, meals, holidays and other personal events to respond to and mitigate emergencies at all hours of the day and night.
We are all thankful for those called into public service, as the jobs they do are stressful, strenuous, and dangerous. Feel free to stop into the Fire Station, or stop one of your firefighters on the street and strike up a conversation or just say thanks for keeping Grayling safe.
GRAYLING FIRE DEPARTMENT
Grayling Fire Department is a division of Grayling Public Safety. The fire department provides: fire prevention education, fire prevention inspection, and fire investigation throughout the City of Grayling and Grayling Charter Township; Additionally, Ice Rescue and High Angle Rescue services are provided throughout Crawford County. The department provides service to of 180 square miles in North Central Lower Michigan. The large coverage area includes: Camp Grayling, Army National Guard Joint Maneuver Training Center, the Grayling Army Airfield and Crawford County McNamara Airport, Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital, Local industry, and Properties.
The Fire Division of Grayling Public Safety is a combination department, with both full-time and paid-per call staff. Current staffing is 22, with a total of 231 years of service to the citizens of Grayling. All the members, both full-time and paid-per call, are certified through the Michigan Firefighters Training Council to Firefighter I & II, many of the staff have progressed their education by taking on other specialties, such as Fire Inspectors, Ice Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, High Angle Rescue and Fire Investigation.
While full-time members staff the department and handle many of the non-emergency calls for service during the day, the paid-per call firefighters maintain careers outside of the fire department, and respond through the use of an advanced alerting system. All Staff, both full and paid-per call drop what they are doing when emergencies are called in, these dedicated members give up numerous hours each year to help ensure Grayling remains a safe place.
The department responds to more than 600 calls for service annually throughout the community. Grayling Fire apparatus include: a 2016 Spartan/ CSJ Rescue Pumper, 2016 CSI Pumper, 2010 CSI and a 2003 Midwest Tenders, a 2004 American LaFrance 75' aerial ladder truck, Rehab Unit along with support and command staff vehicles.
With only 1% of Grayling's service area having hydrants, fire response in much of the community is complicated by the need to truck water for suppression operations. There are 7 "dry-hydrants" in the area where firefighters draft from a river or pond to fill tenders for water shuttle operations.
Additionally, Grayling provides mutual and automatic aid throughout the area.
Smoke Detector Project
The Grayling Fire Department and the Grayling Fire Fighter's Association have teamed up to ensure every house in the community has working smoke detectors. It is the goal or your fire service professionals to check for and install working smoke detectors in homes where no detectors exist or the detectors are more than 10 years old. Grayling Fire Department teams will come to each house and install or replace a smoke detector at NO COST to participants.
This program is made possible through grant money and the generosity of local businesses.
